How the Dyson Bladeless Fan Works

In October 2009, James Dyson's consumer electronics company, famous for its line of vacuum cleaners, introduced a new device to the market called the Dyson Air Multiplier. The Air Multiplier is a fan with an unusual characteristic: it doesn't have any visible blades. It appears to be a circular tube mounted on a pedestal. The shallow tube is only a few inches deep.

Looking at the device, you wouldn't expect to feel a breeze coming from the mounted circle. There are no moving parts in sight. But if the fan is switched on, you'll feel air blowing through the tube. How does it work? How can an open circle push air into a breeze without fan blades?
As you might imagine, there are a few scientific principles at play here. There's also an electronic element. While the tube doesn't have any blades inside it, the pedestal of the fan contains a brushless electric motor that takes in air and feeds it into the circular tube. Air flows along the inside of the device until it reaches a slit inside the tube. This provides the basic airflow that creates the breeze you'd feel if you stood in front of the fan. Dyson claims that the Air Multiplier generates a breeze with 15 times more air than what the device actually takes in.
According to Dyson, the breeze generated by the Air Multiplier is more consistent and steady than one from a standard fan with blades. Since there are no rotating blades, the breeze from the fan doesn't buffet you with short gusts of air.

Today, General Imaging launched its anticipated line of GE digital cameras.
This new line totaling 8 cameras is the first time the GE brand has been used on a consumer camera. Every camera offers the advanced features that we see in a lot of cameras these days. This includes image stabilization, red-eye removal, high ISO sensitivity, and panoramic stitching.
First off is the A Series of cameras. The most affordable of the bunch, these cameras are made for first-time buyers and offers the minimum. The E Series is for those who have had more experience with cameras. As with most average cameras on the market, cameras in this series offer a wide 3inch screen and 4x optical zoom. The G Series or G1 is the most compact of the line up. Made as a ‘point and shoot’ camera, this is perfect for taking great pictures from time to time. For the more serious photographers is the
X: a very high performance camera that offers 12x optical zoom and 8 mega pixels.

Why would you want a USB Turntable you might asking? Well one surprising development in recent years has been the revival of vinyl records – for any younger readers: this was a forerunner of CDs, ask your dad. Although it remained popular with DJs, most music fans had long since consigned their collections to the back of a cupboard, where they remained unheard and gathering dust because there wasn’t a simple, cost effective way of transferring the material into a digital format. Fortunately, that is no longer the case; there are devices you can use to upload your record collection to your computer, or even your iPod, with ease.
1. The “Profile” is a vinyl turntable which plugs directly into a USB slot on your computer, how easy is that? Once plugged in, you simply play a disc and use the accompanying software to convert the tracks into a digital format.
2. The second version you can get is the “iProfile” which is the same turntable but with the addition of a slot for your iPod (Nano and Classic). Once again it’s very easy to use, just pop your iPod into the slot and transfer your tunes. And if you have any old cassettes lying around, you can plug a cassette player into it and transfer those tracks too, very retro!

Both USB turntables can also be used with your standard music system, and the conversion software is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux. If you decide to convert a whole album, the software will automatically divide it up into separate tracks, and search for the correct titles and artists using the Gracenote programme which comes as part of the bundle. And for anyone who thinks 45s and 33s are a blast from the past, the turntables will even convert 78s!
To sum up: either USB turntable would be a great purchase. Not only can you revisit favourite tunes from the past without the expense of buying each album on CD, you can also protect those valuable vinyl record discs – some records are worth a fortune as collector’s items – but still have the pleasure of listening to them in all their crackly, atmospheric glory.

We’ve all done it. Got out of the shower, stood in front of the mirror and proclaimed to the world at large (or to your rubber duck anyway) ‘Oh my god- I’m easily as fat as an elephant!’. I know I have.  Especially the part about the rubber duck (I seem to have amassed a collection…).
Now, if you’ve a caring significant other, then they’ll immediately proclaim that you’re a svelte as a snake. If you’ve an honest significant other they may agree with you. Either way, now you can actually find out what animal you really do resemble in weight, and in future bemoan (or celebrate) with factual accuracy.

These Animal Weighing scales measure you to the nearest rabbit, or other animal, and I believe are more of a novelty product instead of my earlier ‘factual accurancy’ quip. The animals get bigger as the weight goes up obviously, but one of the images on there is clearly a frog, and I think I’d be dragged straight to the doctors if I actually weighed that little. But it’s an amusing gag gift to consider for Christmas, for that person who just won’t accept that they’re just a regular size, or perhaps for that person who really should not be having eighth helpings of turkey…
It would be even cooler (and even more ‘wtf’ worthy) if they were an accurate comparison. It could be beautiful- instead of desperately trying to keep under a certain number, you could compare your diet with your friends using the phrase ‘I was a bear last week, and now I’m down to being a horse’. Would be amusing to see what the clientele at Starbucks thought when they overheard you.

Some recommend it for coffee, but I’d say it’s not a good idea if you make your coffee in a coffee pot, because it’s not pleasant to feel the coffee remains in your mouth. It could work though if you use a coffee filter.
